ONLYOFFICE PDF Editor

Question: The introduction of new annotation types and a redaction feature sounds like a significant step forward. Could you elaborate on the types of annotations that will be supported?

Answer: Starting from version 9.1, ONLYOFFICE PDF Editor supports shapes like Rectangle, Circle, Arrow and Connected Lines that you can draw directly on your PDF documents. You can customize the color and size of your annotations the way you like on the Comment tab.

Question: The ability to add and manipulate charts and SmartArt directly within PDF files would be an invaluable tool for my workflow. I am curious about the extent of customization that will be available for these elements.

Answer: When adding a chart to your PDF file via the Insert tab, you can choose the desired chart type from the available options, such as Column, Line, Pie, Bar, Area and more. Additionally, you can enable or disable specific chart elements like axis titles, data labels and error bars.

SmartArt in PDFs works the same way as in documents. You can insert the object you like and customize its colour, opacity, line thickness and line type via the Shape settings panel.

ONLYOFFICE Spreadsheet Editor

Question: The mention of being able to set text direction for individual cells is a welcome addition. Are there any other notable improvements to the spreadsheet editor in this release?

Answer: Apart from text direction options for cells, ONLYOFFICE Spreadsheet Editor offers the following improvements:

Faster formulas: The LOOKUP, VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, and XLOOKUP functions have been improved for speed and accuracy;
Interactive content: The spreadsheet editor now supports interactive Content Controls, such as combo boxes, scroll bars, check boxes, spin buttons and list boxes;
Improved usability: A dedicated Table Design tab, date filters for Pivot Tables and quick sheet renaming are other new features that streamline daily tasks.

Question: Are the spreadsheet functions highlighted in the parameters as we fill in the formula?

Answer: In ONLYOFFICE Docs 9.1, when you enter a formula, active arguments are highlighted, making it easier for you to track and edit your calculations.

Question: Is this possible to have more options to get data?

Answer: If you mean getting data in spreadsheets, there are currently three options on the Data tab:

From Local TXT/CSV;
From TXT/CSV Web Address;
From Local XML.

Question: Do spreadsheet functions have a short explanation of what each parameter should contain/do?

Answer: Sure thing. When you enter a formula via the Formula tab, you will see its description and information about its arguments. If you need to learn more about a formula you are going to apply, just click the Read more button in the Function arguments window, and you will see a detailed breakdown with examples.

Question: How to put a checkbox on the sheet? I can’t find this option.

Answer: Version 9.1 makes it possible to open and view files that already contain content controls. What this means is that you can’t add checkboxes, but can open sheets with checkboxes for viewing.

ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors

Question: When do you expect the Flatpak to be updated to the new version?

Answer: Usually, the Flatpak version gets updated a few days later after the main release. Stay tuned!

General improvements

Question: Could you provide more information on how the charts, in general, have been enhanced across the suite?

Answer: In version 9.1, the Explosion option for 2D pie and doughnut charts is supported for opening, allowing you to view separated segments. You can also work with external data for diagrams, choosing to embed a file or link to the data source when copying charts between the editors.

Optimization

Question: Any plans for document saving speed optimization, and for sure overall memory optimization when opening multiple (8-10 spreadsheets or document files)?

Answer: Absolutely! We always try to optimize the performance of our software. In previous versions, we implemented some improvements to reduce file opening time and the ability to pre-load scripts to reduce start time. There will be more optimizations in further releases. Don’t miss them out!

Question: What are the substantial improvements that have been implemented? Are there any considerable changes in performance, taking into account the optimisation of the software in terms of the new features applied?

Answer: When it comes to performance optimization, version 9.1 offers the updated LOOKUP, VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP and XLOOKUP formulas. These are the optimization improvements:

Improved logic for handling mixed data types to get more accurate results;
Reduced memory consumption during formula calculations;
Up to 4x faster exact searches with the VLOOKUP formula;
A 4-time speed boost for linear searches with XLOOKUP.

Artificial intelligence

Question: What is your team’s favourite AI platform?

Answer: It’s difficult to say which AI platform is the most popular in our team. At ONLYOFFICE, we use various AI tools and models to improve our productivity. One of the tools we use is ChatGPT. Feature requests

In addition to questions about ONLYOFFICE Docs 9.1, we received many requests for new features and tools that our users would like to see implemented in our editors:

Inserting any object to a document file, such as mp3, mp4, pdf, doc files, etc.;
Support for Python and SQL in spreadsheets;
Fully-working Zotero plugin;

Direct collapse all/Expand all button for the Heading section;
Holding CTRL + mouse scroll up/down to resize the Headings section;
Paragraph sort feature;
Multi-page view in documents;
Aligning to a grid;
Ability to set the font, font size and boldness of Chinese and English texts separately;
Support for other OCR recognition tools, such as Mineru.
