Open by design, not by exception
ONLYOFFICE has been open source since 2014 - not a side project alongside a closed product, but the foundation our editors, servers, and collaboration tools are built on. Every line of code behind our document, spreadsheet, presentation, and PDF editors is public. Check it yourself.

Why we build in the open
Most office suites ask you to trust a closed box. We'd rather you didn't have to.
Because our core products are released under AGPL v3, anyone - a security researcher, a system administrator, a competitor, you - can read the source, run it, modify it, and see exactly how your documents are handled. If something looks wrong, you can find it, and so can the community of contributors and self-hosters who already have.
We also run a public bug bounty program on HackerOne, so researchers are rewarded for finding issues before they become problems.
Our open source timeline

- 2016Desktop Editors go open source, free for personal and commercial use, with plugin support added the same year.
- 2020ONLYOFFICE Groups (a part of ONLYOFFICE Workspace) is released under Apache 2.0, lowering the bar for organizations to deploy and customize it.

Built with, and for, the community
Being open source isn't just about our own code - it's what makes ONLYOFFICE work inside the tools you already use. Our connector ecosystem now covers 40+ platforms, including Nextcloud, ownCloud, SharePoint, Confluence, WordPress, Drupal, and Jira, most of them community-requested and community-tested.
Get it running
Open code means nothing if it's hard to actually use. Pick a product and a way to run it - everything here is free, self-hosted, and yours to keep.

Get involved
There's more than one way to contribute:
Code
Build plugins and macros for ONLYOFFICE Docs, connectors for new platforms, or fix issues directly on GitHub.
Security
Join our bug bounty program on HackerOne and get rewarded for responsibly disclosed vulnerabilities.
Translation
Help bring ONLYOFFICE to more languages through our volunteer translation program.
Testing
Join the beta program and shape releases before they ship.
