About Zhipu AI
Zhipu AI is an advanced Chinese artificial intelligence based on large language models such as the bilingual GLM-130B and the conversational ChatGLM. It can generate and rewrite text, summarize content, translate between languages, explain information, answer questions, and even create images from text prompts, making it a powerful tool for various tasks.
Previously available in ONLYOFFICE as a ZhiPu Copilot plugin, it is now listed among other providers within the AI assistant. This integration makes it easier to access Zhipu’s features without installing separate plugins and lets you combine it with other AI models for a smoother workflow. Connecting Zhipu AI to ONLYOFFICE
Step 1: Install the AI plugin
You can skip this step if you already use the AI plugin in ONLYOFFICE. If you are new to working with AI in our editors, you need to install it first.
- Open ONLYOFFICE Editors.
- Go to Plugins → Plugin Manager → Install or update the AI plugin.
- Close the Plugin Manager and enable the AI plugin among Background Plugins.
Step 2: Connect Zhipu AI
To get started with Zhipu AI in ONLYOFFICE, you need to have a valid API key that you can generate in your Zhipu account.
- Open the AI tab and click Settings. This will bring up the AI configuration window, where you can manage different AI models and assign them to specific tasks.
- Click Edit AI models in the bottom-right corner.
- Press + to add a new model to the list.
- Choose ZhiPu from the list of AI providers.
- Enter your API key in the corresponding field and click Update models list. You can now pick from the available Zhipu models based on your subscription and the type of tasks you plan to carry out with the AI assistant.
- Choose the required model and click OK.
Step 3: Configure the use of the Zhipu models
Once you’ve connected Zhipu AI models, the next step is to assign them to specific tasks. Go back to the AI tab and open Settings. Here, you can choose which models will be used for various tasks. The current version of the AI plugin has seven options: chatbot, summarization, translation, text analysis, image generation, OCR, vision.
Using Zhipu AI features in ONLYOFFICE
Once Zhipu AI is connected, you can use it for a wide range of tasks directly in your documents. Access its features either from the AI tab on the toolbar or by selecting text and opening the context menu with a right-click.

With AI agent, you can type a natural-language request instead of searching through menus. For example:
- “Summarize the selected text into 3 sentences”
- “Format the first paragraph as Heading 1”
- “Create a bar chart from A2:D20”
The agent remembers your previous inputs, so you can refine the result step by step.
How to call the agent:
- Press Ctrl + / to open the AI panel, or ⌘ + / if you use macOS
- Use Ctrl + Alt + / or ⌘ + ⌥ + / for macOS to reset the conversation history.
- Press Esc to close the panel.
