Polish your texts with the new version of the ChatGPT plugin for ONLYOFFICE: fix spelling and grammar mistakes, rewrite texts and more

The AI assistant used in our editors has become more powerful allowing you to use the capabilities of GPT-4 to correct spelling and grammar mistakes, make your texts shorter or longer and even rewrite them completely. Read this article to find out more.
Access to GPT-4
The newest version of the ChatGPT plugin for the ONLYOFFICE suite is based on GPT-4, the latest multimodal model developed by OpenAI, that shows human-level performance in various professional and academic scenarios.
Starting from now, you can use the powerful capabilities of GPT-4 to generate content, edit text and deal with creative and technical writing tasks if your OpenAI account has the corresponding subscription. If not, the ONLYOFFICE plugin will work with one of the GPT-3.5 models.
New text-related options
In addition to the already existing features, such as text and word analysis, translation and content generation, the updated ChatGPT plugin comes with a new section in the context menu offering new options to make it easier for you to work on texts:
- Fix spelling & grammar;
- Rewrite differently;
- Make longer;
- Make shorter;
- Make simpler.
Let’s take a quick look at each of these options and see how they work in the ONLYOFFICE editors.
1. Fix spelling & grammar
As the name suggests, this option is designed to quickly find and correct all grammar and spelling mistakes in the selected text. When you select your text and choose Fix spelling & grammar from the context menu, the ChatGPT plugin will replace your selection with a new text that will be grammatically correct and contain no spelling errors. In this case, ChatGPT makes no changes to the original text except for mistake correction.

2. Rewrite differently
Using this option, you can easily avoid plagiarism as the chatbot significantly changes the original text by replacing some words with their synonyms, modifying the structure of some sentences and adding new phrases based on the given context.

3. Make longer
The Make longer feature is what makes ChatGPT shine. When you select a text and choose this option, the chatbot will use all its creativity to make the selection longer providing additional information and details. In some cases, a short paragraph can turn into a whole story. For example, a few sentences about ONLYOFFICE that we used in previous examples now look like an article.

4. Make shorter
If ChatGPT generates too much text based on your prompts or you need to make your own ones shorter, this feature comes in handy. You just need to select the required text and click on Make shorter in the context menu. The chatbot will generate and insert a new text containing fewer words than the original one keeping all the main ideas.

5. Make simpler
Last but not least, the Make simpler feature is what you can use to make your text more comprehensible to a wide audience. When you select this option from the context menu, the chatbot will generate a new text using more common words and structures making it easier to understand.

How to install and configure the ChatGPT plugin
The ChatGPT plugin is not available by default so you need to install it via the Plugin Manager that you can find on the Plugins tab. If you already have this plugin installed, you might need to update it to the latest version by clicking the Update button on its page in the Plugin Manager.
When the plugin is installed, you need to activate it by clicking its icon on the Plugins tab. The plugin will work in the background.
Now you need to enter your API key that you can generate in your OpenAI account even if you don’t have a paid subscription. To do so, access the plugin’s context menu by right-clicking and selecting ChatGPT -> Settings. Enter your API key and click Save.
The plugin is ready for work, you can use its features via the context menu.
