How ONLYOFFICE integrated with Nextcloud helps organize sporting events

About Sud Sport

Founded in 2008, Sud Sport is a non-profit sports association whose mission is to promote sporting values and a healthy lifestyle. Together with municipal authorities and enterprises, Sud Sport organizes and coordinates free environmentally friendly sporting events.

The association provides timing services that allow measuring with precision, publishing, analyzing and storing events’ results, online registration, volunteer management platform, merchandise for sporting events. One of the most important events organized by Sud Sport was the Grand Pic Saint Loup Challenge.

How Sud Sport meets growing data storage needs

To meet growing needs for storing, managing, and collaborating efficiently with partners, local authorities, volunteers, and other participants, Sud Sport has decided to deploy a file sharing platform. They have tested many services such as Dropbox, GoogleDrive, Hubic.

Georges Portailler, IT manager at Sud Sport, shares their experience of getting acquainted with different solutions:

After the first tests of using Dropbox, we have realized that its storage size was not sufficient to cover our constantly growing needs. Given current trends and contexts, we have put aside OneDrive and GoogleDrive and turned to open source alternatives. We have also considered SSH Filesystem but it was difficult to deploy it on Windows.

Finally Sud Sport chose Nextcloud that was installed on the space provided by the web host of their website. After having tested all available Nextcloud features, Sud Sport has migrated to a new solution Nextcloud Hub.

ONLYOFFICE: from the first trial to the constant use

Sud Sport started their discovery of ONLYOFFICE by the cloud for personal use connected to Dropbox. It allowed them to evaluate the key features of the ONLYOFFICE suite and encouraged them to test other available editions.

In addition to powerful co-editing tools, they especially appreciated the opportunity to access the editors from PC, smartphones, and tablets. Thus every team member can work at their own pace and from anywhere in the world.

When the Sud Sport team was considering integrating the ONLYOFFICE suite into the existing Nextcloud environment, Nextcloud announced the release of the new version with ONLYOFFICE editors pre-installed. To learn more, read this article.
