From content to data: Chandika Wagle shares her internship experience at ONLYOFFICE

As part of our Back to school series, we continue sharing stories from students and young professionals who have joined the ONLYOFFICE Internship Program.

This time, we’re talking to Chandika Wagle from Nepal. During her internship at ONLYOFFICE, she worked on content and documentation and took part in testing the web version of the editors, where she identified and reported bugs and other issues for the team to investigate.

Personal background

Please briefly introduce yourself.

I am Chandika Wagle, from Lalitpur, Nepal. I recently completed my bachelor’s degree in Computer Applications from Tribhuvan University.

What was your inspiration behind pursuing this particular career path or field of study?

One of the biggest reasons I was drawn to this career path is the flexibility it offers. Being able to work remotely and independently from home suits my personality and working style. I do my best work when I have the freedom to manage my own time and focus without distractions. Beyond that, I genuinely enjoy the work itself. Writing articles and creating content help people understand a product better and give me a real sense of accomplishment.

The one person (a mentor, teacher or public figure) who has influenced your professional journey so far?

I am grateful for so many people in my life because they all have helped shape me in some way. But the one person who influenced me a lot is my math teacher from school, who always pushed me to be a better version of myself, to eliminate laziness and believe in myself no matter what happens.

What’s a fun or quirky fact about you that your team might not know?

One fun fact about me is that I can solve Rubik’s Cube in 2 minutes (I know 2 minutes is long). Also, I love collecting small stones as souvenirs from the places I have been to.

ONLYOFFICE experience

What’s the one surprising thing you discovered about ONLYOFFICE after joining?

One surprising thing I discovered about ONLYOFFICE is how they let me do my tasks on my own time, never pressure me about any task, and are always supportive and easy to communicate with.

Have you had any memorable moments with your team or fellow interns?

I did not actually get to talk to my team or fellow interns until very recently, when my team leader was on leave. I got to talk to a fellow intern who helped me understand tasks in my team leader’s absence. She was very friendly.

Is there a particular value or practice at ONLYOFFICE that resonates with you?

What stands out the most for me is how welcoming and supportive the people at ONLYOFFICE are. Everyone is genuinely willing to step in and help, whether it’s answering a quick question or guiding you through something new. What I appreciate even more is that people here celebrate even the small wins, which creates an environment where you feel valued and encouraged to keep learning. As an intern, that kind of culture resonates with me and makes a real difference.

If you could describe your internship experience in three words, what would they be and why?

• Supportive: because my team leader never hesitated to help me. She walked me through every process step by step.
• Meaningful: because my work actually matters. Even small tasks feel important when people acknowledge your effort.
• Flexible: because working remotely gave me the freedom to manage my own time and build a routine that works best for me.

How has this internship influenced your career goals?

Before this internship, I saw writing and data science as two separate paths. But working at ONLYOFFICE changed that. I learned that being able to explain technical concepts in a simple way is a skill that matters everywhere.

Skill development and motivation

Can you share a project you worked on during your internship that you’re particularly proud of?

While auditing the web version of different editors, I identified several bugs and errors. I documented and reported them to my team leader so that they could be addressed promptly. This helped to improve the overall user experience and to ensure that potential issues were resolved before they affected end users.

What tools or skills have you picked up that you think will be useful in your future career?

During this internship, I picked up several tools and skills that I know will stay with me. I became more comfortable using documentation tools and learned how to write content that is clear, structured, and user-friendly. Beyond that, I also developed skills like time management and self-discipline through working remotely, and I got better at communicating with my team even from a distance.

How do you stay motivated and productive during remote work?

To stay motivated and productive while working remotely, I follow a structured daily routine and work from a dedicated space that helps me stay focused. I also make it a habit to jot down my progress and pending tasks in notes at the end of each day, so I can pick up right where I left off the next morning.

Future plans

What’s your dream job or company (besides ONLYOFFICE, of course)?

My dream job is to be a data scientist and use data to solve real-life problems.

Where do you see yourself five years from now?

In five years, I see myself as a data scientist, earning a lot of money and travelling to different parts of the world.
