ONLYOFFICE Documents 8.0 for Android released: What’s new?

We updated ONLYOFFICE Documents for Android devices to version 8.0. This release brings new features to manage DocSpace rooms, set the correct document language, input bidirectional text, and other much-anticipated benefits.

Create, download, and share DocSpace rooms

We extended the integration with our collaboration platform DocSpace in version 8.0, and now you can manage rooms right from your Android device.

Note: DocSpace account is necessary to perform the actions described below. Create your free account.

Creating new rooms

In ONLYOFFICE Documents app for Android, you can add any type of DocSpace room:

• Collaboration room to edit office documents collaboratively (editing and viewing available);
• Custom room with more access permissions for documents (editing, viewing, form filling, reviewing, commenting);
• Public room for inviting users via external links to view documents without registration.

Downloading rooms

Save the progress and files stored in a DocSpace room to your Android device as a ZIP archive.

Where to find: My rooms -> Three dots icon -> Download

Sharing rooms via links

Generate links and share access to documents with other users.

Where to find: My rooms -> Three dots icon -> Info -> Additional links -> Create and copy

Bidirectional text

In version 8.0, we have added support for bidirectional text in documents and presentations. In the upcoming releases, we’re going to add RTL interface and enhance RTL support further.

Conversion to Microsoft formats for editing

From this version on, the app converts text documents, spreadsheets, or presentations to Microsoft-based DOCX, XLSX, and PPTX.

For example, when you upload an OpenDocument text file (ODT) for editing, a dialog window will appear and suggest that you convert the document to DOCX.

Another option is to view the file in the original format.

Set text document language

Switch the language of the text document for correct spellchecking and hyphenation.

Units of measurement in the editors

Change units of measurement to set the relevant ones for your region or specific task (for example, pt and inches).

Where to find: Application settings -> Unit of measurement

Split the page into columns

Arrange text in your documents in columns. This makes information visually appealing and is a formatting standard for some texts, e.g. poetry.

Where to find: Layout -> Column

Image parameters

After uploading an image to your document, you can select it to check and change the parameters.

Stretch the picture, apply text wrapping, replace the image or change the order of several pictures.

Change text orientation in shapes

Have your text displayed vertically or horizontally in any shape.

Where to find: Edit icon -> Text -> Text orientation
