How to make calendar in Excel sheet

Why make a calendar in spreadsheets? It is easy, free, and lets you add any necessary element for comfortable planning. Once created, the calendar can be used as a custom template for various tasks. The core format is XLSX, which makes the output file compatible with Office 365.

You can share calendars with colleagues to add events together or inform clients about free time in your schedule.

Excel weekly calendar

This option is suitable for appointing meetings, planning posts in socials, tracking football fixtures, and scheduling deadlines. Weekly calendars give you a detailed overview of workload for the next 7 days and let you set time.

Follow these steps to make your own weekly calendar template for Excel.

Step 1. Create a new spreadsheet and go to B1. Input the first day of the week — Monday or Sunday. Horizontally add the other days — in our case Tuesday will be in C1, Wednesday in D1 and so on. Leave out the weekend, if you don‘t need this schedule for personal tasks.

Customize the font of this row to your taste.

Step 2. Enter the hour when you start working in A2. Extend the column with time values you need — full hour, half hour, fifteen minutes etc. The last cell in the column will indicate when it is time to close your laptop.

Play with colors, bold, or italicize the fonts for the time.

Step 3. Highlight all values in the spreadsheet and click on Wrap Text to avoid longer texts overflowing to other cells.

Excel monthly calendar

Such calendars are good for planning trips, trainings, diets, and even tracking personal budget. They are most widely used and let you gain insights about productivity, reconsider goals, and analyze payment frequency.

Here is how we make a monthly calendar in an Excel sheet:

Step 1. Create a new spreadsheet, enter days of the week to the first row and customize their size, fonts, and alignment.

Step 2. Let‘s make columns from A to G wider. Select and right-click them, go to Adjust column width —> Custom column width, and set the desired value.

Do the same to the height of rows from 1 to 6. Leave enough space here — each cell is a day in your future calendar.

Step 3. Add numbers of the days to the rows and align them to your liking. We recommend to keep numbers to the top-right corner, so that you have enough space for events and notes.

Step 4. Copy the sheet to create a separate one for each month. Fix the dates and remove 31 from April, June, September, and November. Make 28 days in February (29 in a leap year).

Done! Plan your month and mark completed tasks with a color.

Custom yearly calendar

This type of a calendar gives you a broader overview of the whole year. It is suitable for planning big events, such as birthdays, exams, vacation, accounting reports etc. You can track implementation of long-lasting projects, for example market research.
