Chronicles of ONLYOFFICE, 2020

Year 2020: Important milestones

Participation in open-source initiatives. The year started with good news: ONLYOFFICE became an official partner of the Open Source Business Alliance. We decided to join the OSB Alliance because we share its values and ideas such as open development process, open collaboration and innovation in open source. Moreover, we attended two big open-source events: FOSDEM 2020 and CS3 Workshop 2020.

Launch of the App Directory. We launched the App Directory to help our users work with ONLYOFFICE in an easier and more comfortable way. It is the place where you can search for all the apps (for the portal modules) and plugins (for both the online and desktop editors) you can integrate with ONLYOFFICE. All in one place.

New important releases. ONLYOFFICE online editors v.5.5 brought document comparison, new content controls, mirror and gutter margins, and version 5.5.3 introduced the Mendeley and Zotero plugins to create bibliographies. ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors v. 5.5 made it possible to open multiple documents in several windows, and some features previously available only in the online editors were introduced in the desktop app as well.

New apps for Android and iOS. We released a brand-new version of our app for Android and updated our app for iOS. The Android app was equipped with native editors and viewers, and that for iOS brought the Dark Mode and better performance.

New and old integration apps. Apart from upgrading our solutions, we released the first versions of our official connectors for HumHub and Plone. Moreover, we significantly improved the existing connectors for the following platforms by adding new features:

New partners. The first half of the year was really productive for ONLYOFFICE because we acquired new partners from all over the world:

180-day free trial. At the time of the world pandemic, not only did we join the initiatives of our partners from Jalios, interStis and SMC & IBM Italy, but we also launched a special offer so that companies and employees can adapt to remote work – a free 180-day trial for ONLYOFFICE Cloud Service which is still valid.

New solution for home use. We launched a new tariff plan for those who need professional editing features at home. It is called Home Server and includes all the features of Integration Edition + mobile web editors for 10 users.

Presentation of mascots. After a lot of thinking and sketching, we presented three official mascots of the ONLYOFFICE project – Wisella the owl, Stronger the ant and Spiky the hedgehog. Each of them resembles one of the key values of ONLYOFFICE: smart functionality, powerful collaboration, and high security.
