Dear friends!

It’s time to look back at the year of 2016 and reflect on what has been done, what has been achieved. Here, in this post, we’ve collected the key decisions we made, the most important events and releases.

Fast real-time co-editing added in January

Starting from version 3.6, ONLYOFFICE Online Editors have become the first office suite with switching between two different ways of real-time document co-editing. We added Fast mode in which the changes are shown as the co-author is typing to already existing Strict mode when the changes are shown only after saving. Review and tracking changes first appeared in this version as well.

Desktop Editors released in March

We’ve always wanted to get rid of browser limitations. So, we developed ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors, an office suite for working on text documents, spreadsheets and presentations offline. The app was created on the same code base as the online editors. Thanks to this, we had no difficulties adding co-editing capabilities to the desktop editors. Just connect them to your ONLYOFFICE portal to go online and collaborate.

Integration Edition launched in April

We believe our mission is to bring innovative office apps to everyone. So, we decided to turn our editors into advanced component for integration with third-party web applications. Our friends from German company PowerFolder were the first to try and succeed.

Open source Community Edition released in July

On the 6th birthday of ONLYOFFICE we’ve opened the source code of the latest version with more collaboration features for perfectly efficient teamwork – mail and calendar integration, address book, mail autoreply, review rights and many more.

The open source version was named Community Edition. You can download it here.

ONLYOFFICE Hosting Edition launched in July

Following our mission mentioned above, we have launched a solution for web-hosting and managed service providers – ONLYOFFICE Hosting Edition, giving our partners an opportunity to deploy ONLYOFFICE multi-tenant SaaS solution on their servers to provide their customers with the most complete office suite working in browser.

Desktop Editors go open source in October

We continued following the open source path and decided to open the source code of ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors. It can be found on GitHub. The app is distributed under AGPL license v3. You can download and use it without any restrictions for home, government, educational and commercial purposes.

Support for plugins added in November

We also added support for plugins, giving you access to API for interaction with ONLYOFFICE Editors so that you can add new features for your own needs to our application. Learn more about plugins in this blog post.

Looking back, we understand that this has been a very productive year. But this is just the beginning – there are greater things ahead. We hope you’ll stay with us in 2017 too and wish you happiest New Year ever.
