Hi all!
Last week I covered TeamLab project management enhancements that were introduced in the November interim release. Today I’d like to tell you about the rest of the new features. So, let’s go through them.
Custom portal URL
You can change your portal name and even set a custom domain name. In the letter case you need to contact your hosting provider to change DNS name. I’d like to pay your attention that every time you change the portal address the previous URL becomes unavailable. You’ll have to notify all the portal members about the new portal address.
Import/invite contacts
We introduced an improved way of adding and inviting new members to your portal. In case you extensively use Gmail, Yahoo Mail or Hotmail you can import all your webmail contacts.
Our contacts import feature is based on OAuth+OpenID protocol. It is very secure in terms that you don’t need to give us your login and password credentials. You are sent back to the original webmail service site where you log in and authorize the one-time data transfer. And after your contacts’ emails and names are received you can choose to either add or invite people.
Instant Messenger enhancements
TeamLab Talk web-client got a slightly improved interface and a number of additional features.
The typing status now indicates when your colleague is typing you a message.
You can change the method of delivering your portal notifications and get notified via instant messenger. Portal updates are sent by the notification bot.
When you are offline Talk continually checks for new messages sent to you. And you are immediately notified of new message by a sound and the blinking Chat icon.
In Google Chrome you can also enable html5 browser notifications.
What’s new aggregative page
We’ve added “What’s new” aggregative page where you can view community activity for the specific period of time. This page can be reached via the What’s New widget on the Community dashboard.
Editable user avatars
In the previous TeamLab version user avatars were generated automatically by scaling the main profile photo. Now you can manually edit your profile picture’s thumbnail. On your profile page there’s an Edit avatars link. After clicking the link a new window opens where you can make adjustments to your avatar thumbnail by dragging and resizing the square marquee.
Add video from YouTube
It’s possible to insert YouTube video when adding new posts to blogs, forums, news, or project discussions.
If you are reading this post and are not a TeamLab user yet, you can create your portal in seconds and take advantage of the new features. They are all free for you.
special thx for Editable user avatars
Hi Fenst! We’re glad you like it! 🙂
Hello, Teamlab!
Great work. I am using Mindtouch for corporative portal right now. It’s a great wiki system, with AD integration. But Teamlab has a lot of features which makes it better, and we’re really in need (blogs, votings, bookmarks).
But some cantlivewithout features are missing: user groups, access rights for Wiki pages/categories/projects, hierarchy of Wiki pages with widget to simplify browsing, simplified insert of wiki hyperlink.
If you can take a look on this system and take the best to your product – it would be great!
Hi Val,
Thanks a lot for the kind words and suggestions. We will definitely forward them to our developers, so that they could be considered for future releases! By the way access rights for projects and tasks will be introduced in the first quarter of 2011 😉
Hi Teamlab,
I appreciate the update, but I prefer the old school e-mail invitation feature. The new one is a bit confusing. Please allow some of us to retain the old way of inviting people.
Thanks.
Hello Al,
Thanks for the feedback. It’s still possible to invite employees manually (without importing from Gmail, Yahoo or Hotmail) just as before. All you need to do is click on the Add Employee link on the Actions panel, switch to the Manual tab and list the e-mail address and names of the people you wish to add. Alternatively, you can select the New Employee option on the Actions panel and enter all information about the new employee manually yourself.
How do I set up the DNS for a custom subdomain? What IP should I point it to?
Would be nice to see a simple guide for this process
Hi Barry,
To set up your own domain name, let us advise you to choose one of the following options (the first one being more preferable):
1. Add a DNS CNAME entry such as for example: team.ourcompany.com –> intranet.teamlab.com
2. Add a DNA A-type entry, such as for example: team.ourcompany.com –> 184.73.209.169 (IP address).
Hi Victoria
Seems there @184.73.209.169 lives https://www.learnboost.com/73/184/ – at least I get back this URL in response.
Can you please check info on IP address?
Thank you a lot in advance!
I’ve been searching in google for some ideas and fortuitously found your http://www.teamlab.com web site.
I have to say that it’s a unique blog! I like how particular each of the entries are. They are well balanced, both cognitive and amusing, and the pictures are cool too.
Thank you so much! We’ll try to keep the same balance in future 😉
is there any plans to allow clients to access specific projects and not see anything else, or is this just an internal specific platform?
Dave, we plan to introduce access rights management at the end of this spring so that you can use TeamLab for external relations as well.
Any plan to open WebDav access? This way users can map a drive to TeamLab? We would like user to upload and access document using Window’s Explorer or Mac’s Finder?
let me know if you like more info.
R
Rahim, we do not plan to open WebDav access.
How to increase file upload size for more than 25 MB?
You can increase file upload size to 100 MB upgrading to TeamLab Premium. Please learn more about Premium benefits here
Hi,
I want set my community dashboard as my first page after user login for all. Is it possible in any ways??
Hello, Jatin!
Please, go to the General Settings of your portal and find the section “Default Start Page”
This section allows you to choose the page you go to right after you log in to the portal or click the TeamLab logo when you have already signed in. You can select one of the TeamLab modules, the Feed page, or leave the default Module Choice page.
Just check the corresponding radiobutton and click the Save button at the bottom of the section to make the parameters you set take effect
For more information on general portal settings, please, check out our Help Center – http://helpcenter.teamlab.com/gettingstarted/configuration.aspx
Have a good day!
