Hi everyone!
We’ve returned from Berlin where Nextcloud Conference was held, and we definitely have lots of impressions to share with you. Read the article to learn more.
Event: Nextcloud Conference 2018
Where: Berlin, Germany
When: August 23-30
Program: Hackweek, Talks & Workshops, Enterprise Day
Participants:
We found it cool that among the participants there were many women, e.g. Hong Phuc Dang (founder of FOSSASIA), Katharina Meyer (head of Outreach Prototype Fund), Camila Ayres (software engineer at Nextcloud) and many others. Besides, Jona Azizaj and Xheni Myrtaj shared thier experience of being RGSoC (Rails Girls Summer of Code) students, a global fellowship program for women and non-binary coders. So, more women in IT is the tendency we really like! And two women among ONLYOFFICE representatives prove it.
ONLYOFFICE representatives: Galina Godukhina (head of sales), Ksenia Fedoruk (marketing communications manager), Sergey Linnik (senior developer and the actual creator of ONLYOFFICE connector for Nextcloud), and Alex Mikheev (technical expert and head of tech support).
When: August 25 and 26
Where: The Technical University of Berlin
Opening talk: Keynote of the Nextcloud founder, Frank Karlitschek, about the Nextcloud 14 release.
Covered topics: Diversity in open source, coding, security, virtual machines, contributing to Nextcloud development and many others.
ONLYOFFICE Lightning Talk: ONLYOFFICE in a nutshell, achievements and plans in terms of our integration with Nextcloud, presented by Galina Godukhina.
A funny moment happened when blockchain technology was mentioned – it sparked excitement among the listeners, and we got loud applause. By the way, we’re now actually working on the new Blockchain Edition, a solution for document encrypting and co-editing. Don’t miss the release!
ONLYOFFICE Workshop: integration of ONLYOFFICE Online Document Editors with Nextcloud, demonstration of simultaneous co-editing, real-time collaboration on a doc with all the participants, discussing follow-up questions. Held by Alex and Sergey.
A brief overview of received questions and suggestions:
When: August 27
Where: The Park Inn at Berlin Alexanderplatz
Participants: Nextcloud team and productivity partners + IT professionals and enterprises
ONLYOFFICE presentation: technology behind ONLYOFFICE, multiple collaborative features in ONLYOFFICE online document editors, security measures, benefits of integration with Nextcloud. Presented by Ksenia Fedoruk.
Achieved goals: new contacts established, business talks with prospect customers and partners.
Additionally: We met Jan Dageförde, a PhD student and a Moodle contributor from the University of Münster, Germany. We discussed Moodle plugin and technical problems connected with its development. So, the real integration with Moodle (maybe via Nextcloud) is not that far away.
A nice view from the Park Inn roof
The conference was extremely productive, full of new discoveries and connections. We are glad to know that ONLYOFFICE matters for the up-to-date business software landscape, and that there are further ways to grow and develop.
