How to connect ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors to ownCloud or Nextcloud

We continue to broaden the integration with our officially introduced partners, ownCloud and Nextcloud. Following the technical cooperation plans, we’ve released the new version of ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors that you’re able to connect to both cloud storage platforms. Just follow the easy instructions of our today’s blog post and learn how to do it.


By connecting ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors to your ownCloud or Nextcloud, you are able to:

  • use features available in your desktop suite instance and not present in the online editor, including local plugins, fonts, and spellchecker;
  • directly access print service;
  • get advanced work with buffer to avoid browser clipboard limitations.

*Please note that Desktop Editors’ connection to ownCloud, or Nextcloud requires ONLYOFFICE Document Server to be installed. 


Step 1. Once desktop suite is launched, click Connect to cloud on the left side panel, and then click the ownCloud, or Nextcloud icon.

Or click any of three icons/buttons, and select the needed option from the drop-down menu:


Step 2. Specify the URL of your cloud office, and click the Connect now button:

Step 3. Sign in to your account entering a username/email and a password:


Done! Now you can edit and collaborate on your ownCloud or Nextcloud documents right from ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors:

    we've been looking for this feature for a long time. So first of all: Thank you!

    My question is: Are there any costs for this feature? I mean, do I need the Enterprise version of OC? Do I need an OnlyOffice subsription (e.g. for 50 people ~ $1.000 per year)?

  • So installing the Document Server Plugin and connecting the Desktop app to the owncloud server won't work? Why is the Web App necessary for editing the documents within the desktop app?

    • Hi Pascal,
      the web app (so, ONLYOFFICE Document Server connected to your ownCloud via integration app, or in other words, ownCloud-ONLYOFFICE combination) is required when connecting Desktop Editors to ownCloud because it ensures the process of co-editing. Without it, collaborative work on documents in real-time will not be available for users.

    I can log in to my nextcloud account via Onlyoffice editor but once I close editor I need to enter the URL again. please let me know how it can hold login always after log in one time. thanks in advance.
