ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors Go Open Source

Published by

Exciting news for open-source community – we have opened the source code of ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors.

Why to use
ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors is an office suite that allows users to create, view and edit documents, spreadsheets and presentations on PC or Mac without Internet connection. Being fully compatible with MS Office, the editors also support other popular formats, including ODF.
The editors can be easily connected to your ONLYOFFICE portal, no matter which solution you use – cloud or server-based. In online mode you may use all the collaboration features: two co-editing modes (fast and strict), commenting and built-in chat.
The editors’ functionality can be extended by third-party plugins. Create templates, insert video from YouTube or write your own plugin to add a function you need to the editors.
Read our API documentation to learn more about the plugins.
The office suite is available under AGPL license v3. This means you’re able to download and use ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors without any restrictions.
How to start
The current version is available for Windows (both 64-bit and 32-bit), Mac OS 10.10 or higher and Linux.
For Linux you will need to choose the installation package depending on the version you have:

      • Hi.

I'm trying to install in openSUSE Leap 42.1 using zypper. I have dependency problems with boost-filesystem, but i have installed libboost-filesystem, so i ignore the error.

I'd have to install libgtkglext-x11-1_0-0, though install with zypper don't do it; then i have the follow error:

./DesktopEditors: /usr/lib64/ no version information available (required by /opt/onlyoffice/desktopeditors/
This application failed to start because it could not find or load the Qt platform plugin "xcb"
        in "".

Available platform plugins are: eglfs, linuxfb, minimal, minimalegl, offscreen, xcb.

Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

I've installed xcb and even try to reinstall onlyoffice, but still fails.

Try to use bin installer, stops at 92% while working with /opt/onlyoffice/desktopeditors/xcbglintegrations/

        • Hello! We know about the problem, and this one is also fixed in the new version. Would you wait for the release? Hope that this will happen this week

  • Was not able to install it on my PC. Ran the set-up file, but then got some error message. Tried again and the same thing happened. It's a shame, because I only have the outdated Microsoft Works package on my PC which is not compatible with others PCs. I suspect it's a problem with my bad PC which is playing up big time!

  • I used your repository on my Ubuntu 16.04.1 to install and it worked perfectly. Thanks for going open source!

  • Hello I own the "KDE MANJARO". I can even install it, but the program does not work. When you open a popup with the message:

An error has occurred while opning the file.

When I try to open the terminal the error message appears:

    [carlos@carlos ~]$ sudo /opt/onlyoffice/desktopeditors/
    [sudo] senha para carlos:
./DesktopEditors: /usr/lib/ no version information available (required by /opt/onlyoffice/desktopeditors/

/opt/onlyoffice/desktopeditors/DesktopEditors: /usr/lib/ no version information available (required by /opt/onlyoffice/desktopeditors/
    /opt/onlyoffice/desktopeditors/converter/x2t: /usr/lib/ version `CURL_OPENSSL_3' not found (required by /opt/onlyoffice/desktopeditors/converter/x2t)

  • Whats the difference between this and WPS / Libre Office / etc? I use Ubuntu 16.04 thanks :)

    • Hi! The difference between ONLYOFFICE is brilliant at working at OOXML formats (docx, xlsx, pptx), while Libre/OpenOffice is more about OpenDocument formats.

As for comparing with WPS - ONLYOFFICE has more collaborating capabilities. Moreover, many of collaboration features in WPS are available only for paid users. In ONLYOFFICE you can use them without any restrictions by connecting your desktop version to free server-based version (Community Edition).

  • Error Fedora 25
./DesktopEditors: error while loading shared libraries: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

  • /DesktopEditors: error while loading shared libraries: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Running on Fedora 29 having tried both the RPM download and the repo menthod. I cannot find a version of this library on any distro to satisfy regardless and the symlink fix method no longer works on these systems.
