3 Good Pieces of News for Teamlab Users

It has been a week since we came back from TechCrunch Moscow and it would be unfair to be silent about the results.
Well, today we’ve got 3 great pieces of news and a couple of photos)

First things first.

Teamlab 7.0 is officially out! From now your team is working in a brand new Teamlab Office.

It was released on the 9th of December, the first day of TechCrunch Moscow. We are very thankful for your patience, understanding and support, as the release took quite much time and effort. However, it’s here, completely renovated and refreshed – hope you’ve already checked out the new website. We’ve tried our best to make it modern and stylish.

Second and the most exiting.

We are leaving CHEAP ACCOUNTS for small teams and startups. This decision is based on the feedback that we got after announcing pricing plans here. We realize that some teams can not afford paying for software monthly, however they also need an effective collaborative platform.  We understand the demand and in our turn want to show some support and foster their growth.
Thus accounts for 1-5 members cost $50 per year.

For more details about the pricing, please go to our pricing page

The last but not the least.

As promised, we’re happy to share the results of TechCrunch Moscow 2012, which took place at the beginning of December. There were 46 startups and we are proud to say we were among those 6 which passed to the second round. Though we didn’t win the game, we got a huge portion of positive emotions, useful experience and which is more important  – were able to announce the new version release to a wider audience!

Here is our Startup Alley stand.
Welcome Alexandra,
Head of Teamlab Marketing Department
and Nina, Teamlab Marketing Manager

Meet our great team!

Have you already checked the online spreadsheets and presentations editors?
We bet, you’ll like them!

As usual, we are willing to hear from you, so don’t hesitate to share your thoughts in comments and have a good day!

    • Atli, next week we are planning to release the hybrid cloud version of TeamLab 7.0 for installation on Amazon servers and Microsoft Hyper-V.
OpenSource version of 7.0 isn't expected yet.

      • Not to mention the email you sent out on November 25th, 2012 pointing out and I quote:
"Open source version of 7.0 is expected soon after the SaaS 7.0 stable version"

Subject of the email was: "TeamLab 6.5 server solution is out!"
In case some one wants to search for it in their inboxes.

      • Wrost news ever.
Was the best thing about Teamlab even though it was ASP.NET and Windows server only this made it the software of my choice.
I think i won't update then to stay flexible.
        Bad decision in my opinion.

    • Hi, Glenn!
What we are planning to release in the nearest future is the hybrid cloud version of TeamLab 7.0 for installation on Amazon servers and Microsoft Hyper-V.
The announce is scheduled on the end of February, so there is little left to wait)
      Stay tuned!

      • Hi Nina

        Thanks for your reply.

So what you are saying is that I won't be able to install this on my own hardware using ESXi for instance?

        • Dear Glenn,
for private Teamlab Office deployment you will be able to choose between two options:

          1) Virtual machine with the pre-configured TeamLab Office within Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2)
          2) Windows servers with Hyper-V support.

          • Hi Nina

Thanks for your reply however I wouldn't be interested in a product that doesn't allow me to install into my own environment.

I don't understand why you would make this change now after getting 6.5 to the point where install was simple and reliable on a Windows server.

Why force users to support one virtualization platform over another? It limits your reach and Windows is Windows on esxi or hyper-v or kvm.

It's too bad. Teamlab was a good product and I hoped to encourage my clients to use it but I will have to find something else.

          • Dear Glenn, thank you for the feedback and sorry for making you upset.
The reason why we chose the hybrid solution is the the technology advance and the ability to provide Online Office Apps and email notifications from a public cloud, allowing us to take care of their maintenance and constantly update them.
From a users' point of view hybrid cloud provides much more advantages than a regular server solution.

          • Hi Nina

            I'm not upset. Just disappointed.

I think this decision limits your options and will drive some of your user base away.

You already have a great production version going with 6.5 so why not continue with it.

            Best of luck

        • +1 waiting for the server version
we cannot use SaaS version because of slow Internet connection to Amazon ;-(

          • Pavel, hope the hybrid version that will be released next week will make a change to your smile image)
There will be an opportunity to choose a close server for data storage, which makes workflow as dynamic as it can possibly be.

  • Hi,

The release 6.5 source will be easily upgraded to the next release ?

Cause the release 7 have new components.

    • Janosc , hello.
We changed the prices because of the new company policy.
From now on free SaaS accounts are provided for non-commercial organizations only.
Although you can always use our open source/server version which remains free, of course.

      • First there were free accounts, then there were no free accounts, then there were free accounts again, now without any warning there are no free accounts again.

It is your product and it is entirely your decision on how you charge for your product, but at least make a statement on the website.

It is a poor practice to revise an existing blog post that promoted for nearly a month the continued offering of free accounts to make it appear as if your big news was the offering of CHEAP ACCOUNTS.

  • Hi there,

I have a question regarding pricing. Why is SaaS pricing for V7 with online editors higher than hosted version?

If you don't have to be responsible for hosting, you'd think it would be discounted a little.

    • My undertanding of the whole thing is, that you only host the Teamlab. The Office editing feature is used via the internet as a service.
You basicly upload the file you want to edit to the teamlab cloud, edit it and while you are saving it the cloud sends it back to your server.
But I am not 100% sure about that.
But if that is the case a third person can basicly read the files you are editing if he or she has access to the cloud server for editing.

  • Does the free subscription come with 1 or 10GB of storage? If it's 1, does linking it with a Google account allow a greater amount of storage, or how does that work?

    Thanks for the great product!

  • Thumbs up for leaving free plans :)

Do you any information about TeamLab 7.0 being out as download version?
I currently installing 6.5, which came out while I installed 6.0 so i basicly restarted instead of porting it.
I just wonder if I should start with 6.5 already or wait for another 2-3 days for 7.0 to come.

    • Funcoder, thanks for your thumbs!)
Regarding the server version, it is expected by the end of January, so meanwhile you can enjoy the 6.5.

      • Thank You, for that information ;)

I'm going with 6.5 until than. Maybe porting it to 7.0 will be so easy i can do it with the click of my mouse :P
