What’s next, TeamLab?

This month we have received several requests from our users asking to post about TeamLab future enhancements. We couldn’t but follow your wish – today we publish the list of the upcoming new features and solutions.

TeamLab mobile application is the main on the agenda. The first light version, optimized for iPhone, iPod and Android, will appear in May and include Community module: you will be able to view and search through employees list, read and comment blogs, forums, events, bookmarks. Project Management module will come next allowing you to do the following activities: add, edit and close tasks, take part in “Discussions”, view “My team” info, keep up-to-date with “My projects” newsfeed, send e-mail to team members. While iPad users will be able to enter and work at the general portal.

TeamLab new version enhancements

We have already covered the Documents module functionality, released in TeamLab new version 3.0. There is still a number of the other modules enhancements worth mentioning. So, what changes are introduced?

TeamLab Documents: Manage documents workflow right on your company portal

Good news for TeamLab users- as promised in our previous posts, we have released the Documents module. This module lets you create, edit, store and share data with your colleagues right on the portal with no software installation needed. In other words, your TeamLab portal has turned into a fully-equipped workspace where you can manage business processes and documents workflow altogether, and thus, considerably save your time and efforts.

How to launch Open Office on your portal?

Having introduced Documents module, we decided to explain the way it works to anticipate your possible questions and doubts. As mentioned in our post, TeamLab Documents operation requires no installation of office software. Ability to create and edit documents on portal became possible with a specially developed virtualization technology.

How to setup your smartphone to receive Talk messages and notifications?

Nowadays business is unimaginable without mobile phones. Thanks to mobile Internet, apps and IMs you can stay up to date with the news relevant to you, no matter where you are. It is as much important to be in touch with the latest activity in your TeamLab portal. That’s why we thought it must be interesting for you to learn how to receive your portal notifications and chat messages directly on your iPhone, Nokia, Samsung or any other smartphone or pocket PC.

The setup procedure is very simple. For a start you need to make sure that the IM client you are using supports XMPP (Jabber). You can find the list of instant messengers that enable XMPP connection on the XMPP official website (search among the mobile platforms). The list provided on this website is not complete though, so we’d recommend checking up the features of a particular IM client as well. The most popular free instant messengers for mobile that allow you to set up TeamLab Talk are QIP Infium, Pidgin and uTalk.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

How to use your corporate messenger as a web application: TeamLab Talk + Google Chrome

Did you know that you can setup TeamLab Talk to be able to launch it in one click, with no need to open browser, type in your portal name and so on? This is really possible, in case you use Google Chrome, and today I will explain you how to do it.

There is a tool in Chrome allowing you to create application shortcuts. The idea is very simple: you create a webpage shortcut on your desktop and use it in order to launch browser with no menu and just one page. This feature is well suited for Gmail and other RIA, and can also be applied to TeamLab Talk web client. Here are the how-to steps:

1. Launch TeamLab web client in a new bookmark, open the settings and under the Tools section choose to create application shortcut.

TeamLab Docs: Lifting the curtain on our virtualization plans

Since our post about the roadmap gained so much attention and made it possible for us to collect lots of useful feedback, we’ve decided to keep on sharing with you our vision of the future TeamLab versions.

Let’s start with our nearest plans. In the beginning of the new year we are going to release the Documents module. We’ve already mentioned it while talking about our upcoming release.
This module will allow you to:

  • store your personal documents privatly and share them with your co-workers;
  • get access to the corporate documents storage containing files intended for all team members;
  • edit and co-author personal and corporate documents directly in your browser and keep change history.

The text editing feature is the most noticeable upcoming update. It is based on our virtualization technology that allows you to launch Open Office directly from the portal interface with no need to install any software on your PC. You will be able to create and edit your document, spreadsheet or presentation and save all the changes in a file stored right in TeamLab. Thereafter it will be possible to edit this file again without deleting the previous version (due to file versioning support), share it with your team or download to your hard drive.

The virtualization technology I’m talking about is our own development. It has just gone live within another project launched by our company –
